END OF YEAR ACTIVITY

Our Venturer unit each year has a massive end of year activity over New Years. Two weeks of adventurous and excitment filled activities, such as caving, hiking, liloing and kayaking. Some of the caves explored in Coolaman were Yarrangobilly caves, Barbers cave and Cooleman Cave.

FESTIVAL OF CANYONING

Joint Venturer and Rover activity in Fortress Canyon. 15th Jan 2017

Some of our venturers made the most of the holidays and perfect canyoning weather by joining the leaders in exploring new canyons. Canyons such as Fortress, Zorro and Hole in the Wall were some of the many canyons experienced by the venturers. These trips allowed for older venturers to practise their canyoning skills and the younger venturers to experience canyoning firsthand.

Scouts and Venturers support Leukaemia Research – Oct 2017

2nd Gordon and North St Ives Scouts, Venturers, parents, and leaders worked the Sat 28 Oct afternoon through to hours well into Sun morning to daybreak to support the 2nd Gordon Scouts-run Checkpoint India at Wisemans Ferry for the Hawkesbury Canoe Classic race.

Each year, The Arrow Foundation hosts the race for around 600 participants who paddle for up to 111km overnight to raise money for research.

2nd Gordon has run the site for well over 15 years, including site logistics, checkpoint control, and check in and out to track all paddlers.

Congratulations to our own Chris, Ric, and Nicole on your achievements in the paddle!

Scout & Venturer Leaders progress Advanced Leadership Training Jul 2017

2nd Gordon Scout section leaders Glenn, Phil, Connor and Venturer leader Nicole have now completed 90% of their Advanced Leadership sectional training following a mix of comprehensive online training modules and about 18 hours of weekend practical training at the Baden Powell Scout Centre. They now only need to complete their final projects in their own time to complete the course (though learning will never really cease).

Roventure 2017 Win – Mar 2017

Congratulations to 2nd Gordon Venturers and Rovers who won at Roventure 2017 “The Gap Year”.

Roventure is an annual competitive event that bonds Venturers with Rovers. It was at Camp Kariong and included many fun and crazy activities including highland games, trivia, dance tent, worldwide eating, and a scavenger hunt. 2nd Gordon members braved the rainy weekend which didn’t dampen the fun one bit!

2nd Gordon Venturers Unit and Rover Crew are some of the largest sections and most active in our region…

Venturers Queen Scout Awards – Mar 2017

A wonderful night was put together by the 2nd Gordon Venturer Unit to celebrate our newest Queen Scout Award recipients Angus P, and Peter T. Both were treated to a catered dinner at the 2nd Gordon Scout hall, along with parents, numerous delegates, previous members and leaders associated with the group, the Sydney North Regional Commissioner Kerry Griffin, the Rovers, and the group’s current leaders from all sections.

If you can see carefully in the photo’s background above, the large honour board mounted to the wall recognises our long-standing history of Queen Scout Award recipients. This is a remarkable achievement and the stories of Angus’ and Peter’s drive and motivation should be encouraging to all Venturers to follow in their footsteps.

Congratulations to our Venturer unit for organising a great night, and especially Angus and Peter, a truly sterling effort!

New Leaders invested to 2G group Jan 2017

Congratulations to both of our newest leaders, Connor Holmes (Scout Leader – far left in pic) and Tanya Fiedler (Cubs leader in final training – centre of pic). Both are professionals/executives who have already committed much of their time towards the Scouting community last year. They both have children at 2nd Gordon so get to share time with them in a great environment with the support of their fellow leaders. Leader profiles will be added to a new web page tab in near future. Next time you see Connor and Tanya, both will be wearing their one-of-a-kind tartan 2nd Gordon scarves and membership badges. Please support them supporting your children. [Photo apologies absent: Rod and Geoff from our Venturer Scout unit, and Rovers leaders].

Farewell of 7 Scouts to Venturers Nov 2016

Farewell Zoe, Finn, Milly, Eddie, Ben, James, and Declan (not pictured) from the 2nd Gordon Scouts section. We trust you have all learnt great skills, made friendships, and had life experiences that you can take further into Venturer Scouts. Despite how hard the leaders ‘worked’ you all, we are proud of your achievements. Best wishes as you move onwards and upwards!
